j Port Alberni to China Creek
Coming down the hill into Port Alberni
you will come across direction signs to Bamfield. Follow
these signs through the town of Port Alberni and onto the
logging road (please read precautions on main directions
page). Once on the gravel you will travel approximately 5.2
km to the China Creek Marina turnoff. Once you reach the
marina sign, keep to your left, continuing up the hill
following the power lines.

China Creek to Franklin River

From China Creek on, just follow the
power lines. These will take you to Franklin River.
During this stretch, be aware there are many tight corners
that turn into narrow bridges. Most of these bridges
are one vehicle wide, so use discretion when encountering
other vehicles, but always give the right-of-way to loaded &
unload logging trucks! You will know you have arrived at the
Franklin River when you cross a small bridge and
encounter a 4 way Stop intersection. This intersection is well
marked, indicating to turn left to go to Nitinaht.

Franklin River to Nitinaht
Junction (20km)
CAUTION - just after you turn left from
Franklin River, you will discover the road is paved. This
paved section is very wavy (up and down), and if it has
rained recently, extremely slippery.
Once again, for the most part you are
able to follow the power lines out most of the way. However
these power lines eventually leave the road, at this time
just keep on the mainline (road) and continue towards
Nitinaht. After the paved section, you will once again
travel along gravel. You will cross a fairly large bridge (Nitinaht
River) and then come to another large intersection with a
road heading left up a hill and another heading slightly
right. As you will notice by all the signs, keep to the
right, you are almost here (7kms away).

m Nitinaht Junction to Nitinaht Village
(6-7km)
From this junction to the village is
only 7km. The road parallels the river several times during
this short stretch. If you do decide to stop and look at the
river, please pull of at a designated pull out (unusually
wide spot in the road) so that traffic won't be affected.
Just before the village you will come to another
intersection. Take the road to the right and
continue into the village.

n Nitinaht Village
Welcome to Nitinaht Village. Our
community is small with plenty of children out and about.
PLEASE keep you speed down to
30km/hr while traveling through our village. To get to the
campsite, continue through the village, passing by our
store/gas station/cafe (all one building) and back onto
gravel. Once you reach the tree line you will see a sign
saying "Nitinat Forest Recreation Site", turn right and head
on in. Once again, drive slowly as there can be a lot of
people around. Enjoy your Stay.
